THE PROCEDURE
A Classical abdominoplasty may take two to five hours while mini abdominoplasty may need one to two hours. Surgery is done under spinal or general anesthesia. You can be back to work in 2-4 weeks time. The results following abdominoplasty are permanent.
Surgical cuts are made into your abdomen by the surgeon. Belly button is cut from the surrounding skin. Thereafter, the surgeon pulls together torn or stretched muscles and stitches them into place. This is necessary in order to produce the washboard appearance that most women seek for following a tummy tuck. If there is an associated hernia then the hernia is repaired. Excess fat is removed as well. Then the excess skin is pulled down and trimmed off. Belly button is repositioned to fit into the new tummy shape. The procedure is often combined with liposuction to contour the abdomen, flanks and love handles. The whole idea is to sculpt the body and achieve the figure that one is desirous of.
Prior to surgery, you may be asked by your surgeon to lose weight, stop taking the contraceptive pill, give up smoking and avoid taking anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements.
Abdominoplasty requires a surgeon’s expertise to produce aesthetically satisfying results.
